Moving to Brazil? Shortstay Makes Renting a Home Much Easier

Summary

Moving to Brazil shouldn’t mean finding a guarantor, buying furniture or navigating a traditional rental contract. See how Shortstay makes furnished monthly hou

Moving to Brazil is already a big enough project.

You may be starting a new job, studying, relocating with your partner or simply spending a few months experiencing life in another country.

Finding a home should not become the hardest part.

Traditional rentals in Brazil can involve long contracts, furniture, guarantors, local documentation and weeks of back-and-forth before you can actually move in.

Shortstay was built to make that experience different.

Choose a furnished apartment, select how long you need it, send the required documents online, sign digitally and move in.

One month. Four months. Nine months. A year.

Your stay should follow your plans.

We did not want foreigners arriving in Brazil to learn the entire Brazilian rental market before they could have a home.

A home in Brazil without building one from scratch

Imagine arriving in Brazil and immediately having to:

  • find an unfurnished apartment;
  • buy a bed;
  • buy a refrigerator;
  • arrange internet;
  • negotiate a long rental contract;
  • find a guarantor;
  • coordinate several utility bills;
  • sell everything again when you leave.

For someone moving permanently, some of that may eventually make sense.

For someone staying a few months, it often doesn't.

Shortstay focuses on furnished apartments for flexible monthly stays starting from 30 days. The platform is designed for people who need somewhere to actually live, rather than a hotel room or nightly accommodation. Learn how Shortstay works.

You don't need a traditional Brazilian rental

One of the biggest differences is the rental structure itself.

On Shortstay, you can choose a stay from 1 to 12 months directly during the reservation process. The properties are furnished and the reservation, document submission, contract and management of your stay happen digitally. See the reservation process.

That means you are not trying to force a three-month relocation into a traditional long-term lease.

What do foreigners actually need?

Shortstay has made the process much lighter than a conventional rental, but there is still a basic identity and financial verification for security.

If you are a foreigner without Brazilian residence, the standard documentation currently includes:

  • a clear copy of your passport;
  • a detailed bank statement covering the last 6 months.

Additional documents may occasionally be requested depending on the reservation and internal analysis. See the official document requirements for foreigners.

So no, we do not ask you to arrive in Brazil with a Brazilian guarantor, a folder full of local rental history and furniture for an empty apartment.

We ask for what we need to verify the reservation safely.

What if I don't have a CPF yet?

This is one of the most common concerns for people arriving from abroad.

A CPF is Brazil's individual taxpayer registration number and is used throughout everyday life in the country.

If you do not have one yet, Shortstay's Help Center explains the process and links to the official Brazilian government procedure for obtaining it.

For stays where a CPF is required, it can be issued online. See the Shortstay CPF guide for foreigners.

You do not need to understand every Brazilian document before you begin looking for a home.

Why not simply stay in an Airbnb?

Airbnb is useful for travel.

If you are coming to Brazil for five nights, it may be exactly what you need.

But there is a major difference between visiting a city and living in one for six months.

Shortstay does not operate on nightly rentals. Its model begins at 30 days and is built around monthly furnished living, digital contracts and longer stays. See how Shortstay differs from Airbnb.

For longer stays, that changes the experience.

Instead of asking:

“Where am I staying tonight?”

you start asking:

“Where am I going to live while I am in Brazil?”

That is the problem Shortstay is built to solve.

Technology changed what renting can look like

A lot of rental bureaucracy exists because the traditional process was designed around paperwork, manual analysis and disconnected systems.

Shortstay invested heavily in technology so much of that process can happen behind the scenes.

The reservation journey can include:

  1. choosing an apartment;
  2. selecting your move-in date;
  3. choosing your length of stay;
  4. submitting your information;
  5. completing identity and financial verification;
  6. signing digitally;
  7. making the payment;
  8. receiving your check-in information.

The reservation and stay can then be managed through Shortstay's digital platform and app. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

The technology is not there to make renting feel more technical.

It is there so you have less rental administration to deal with.

More than software

Technology alone does not understand housing.

Shortstay combines its digital platform with decades of experience in the real-estate and accommodation sector.

That matters because renting is not only about getting a contract signed.

There are properties, buildings, inspections, payments, check-ins, maintenance and hundreds of practical details that have to work after you arrive.

The objective is simple: technology should remove unnecessary friction while the housing operation continues to work behind it.

For work, study or simply a few months in Brazil

Shortstay is particularly useful when your life does not fit a conventional lease.

You might be coming to Brazil for:

  • a temporary work assignment;
  • a company relocation;
  • university or exchange;
  • an internship;
  • postgraduate study;
  • a research project;
  • a transition before finding a permanent home;
  • several months of remote work.

The common point is simple:

you need a real home, but you do not necessarily need a permanent one.

Arrive with your suitcase, not your furniture

A furnished monthly apartment eliminates one of the strangest parts of temporary relocation: buying a house full of things you already know you will eventually leave behind.

Shortstay properties are designed as furnished accommodations, and individual property pages explain exactly what is available in each unit.

Depending on the apartment, you may find:

  • bed and storage;
  • sofa;
  • equipped kitchen;
  • refrigerator;
  • microwave;
  • work area;
  • Wi-Fi;
  • building amenities.

Always check the individual listing before booking because amenities and included expenses can differ between properties.

Everything should be clear before you arrive

Moving countries requires trust.

You should know:

  • which apartment you booked;
  • how much you are paying;
  • when your stay starts;
  • when it ends;
  • what is included;
  • what documents are needed;
  • how check-in works.

Shortstay uses a digital contract and reservation process so those details can be documented before your stay.

After your contract is signed, the contract and monthly invoices can also serve as proof of address in the circumstances described by Shortstay's Help Center. Read about proof of residency.

That can be especially useful when you are establishing your life in Brazil.

We want you to enjoy Brazil, not study Brazilian rental bureaucracy

There will already be enough things to discover.

How PIX works.

Why everyone asks for your CPF.

Which neighborhood you actually like.

Where to find good coffee.

How long it really takes to understand Brazilian Portuguese spoken at full speed.

That is the idea behind Shortstay:

find a furnished home, reserve it online and get on with your life in Brazil.

Shortstay exists for the space between a hotel and a permanent rental.

Not one night.

Not necessarily several years.

Just the amount of time your life requires.

If you are moving to Brazil, start by exploring furnished apartments available on Shortstay.

Choose your city, your apartment and the period you need.
